Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening can sometimes be used to lighten the colour of the teeth without harmingwhite1-203x200 any of the tooth surface.

Teeth become more discoloured as we get older, or they may be stained on the surface by food and drinks such as red wine and tea.

The dentist will assess your suitability for whitening and if you decide to go ahead impressions of your teeth will be taken. From these impressions, thin gum shields will be made to contain the whitening gel. These are worn during the evening or overnight for a period of 1-2 weeks. When in contact with the teeth, the whitening gel releases oxygen which enters the enamel and the tooth colour is made lighter.

Whitening can only be carried out if you are over 18 years of age.
