Dear Patient:

We hope you are well and have stayed safe during this awful pandemic.

Our practice is now open and we wanted to inform you of changes at the practice. During the lock down we have all been working extremely hard to ensure we have our personal protection equipment (PPE) and robust protocols in place ready to go. The treatments you are offered may be different to those you received before and we must carry these out under extremely strict cross infection controls. It will take some time before services return to what you previously experienced as normal.

You will be aware that we routinely work to the highest standard of patient protection, following infection control guidelines made by the governing bodies and also have the benefit of a dedicated sterilisation room at the practice. However due to COVID-19 we must implement extra precautions to keep our patients and staff safe.

Our practice will communicate with you beforehand to ask some health screening questions
and explain the protocols we have put in place. We ask that you kindly comply, as this will ensure we all stay safe during your appointment. You’ll be asked those same questions again at your appointment to confirm there are no changes. Please inform us if there are any changes in your medical health or medication you may be taking.

If you show symptoms of Covid -19 after you have booked your appointment you should contact the practice by phone. Symptoms may include high temperature, a new continuous cough,loss or change of sense of smell or taste, shortness of breath.

We have re organised our waiting room and reception area to ensure social distancing can be observed. We have replaced furnishing and fittings to enable easier cleaning. We no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so
forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.

Our appointment book has been re-organised to allow extra down time for the surgery to be fully decontaminated between patients. This necessary process means fewer patients will be seen each day. In addition to this certain vulnerable patients or types of treatment may need to be booked at specific times of the day. Our receptionists will do their best to accommodate you when booking your appointment, but please be aware that she must
follow the appointment booking in system as it has been set up.

Staff will be wearing different protective uniforms, masks and possibly visors.

When you arrive for your appointment, please wait outside and telephone the surgery on 07561 695186 to let us know of your arrival. You may need to wait outside or in your car until we are ready for you, so please do not arrive too early. Please come with minimal bags/belongings.

With the exception of children and patients with carers, patients should come alone. Anyone accompanying you will be asked to wait outside.

Patients should come wearing a mask if possible or be prepared to wear one. Your temperature may also be taken.

We have hand sanitiser that we will ask you to use when you enter and leave the practice. You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the practice for you to use as needed.

Please do not come to the surgery if you do not have an appointment, we will be happy to talk to you on the phone.

Payment should be made by card where possible.

We must prioritise our appointment slots, so the first people we will be contacting will be patients who have phoned us needing help with broken fillings or pain during our shut down. I am sure you will agree these patients need to be called in first. We will gradually work our way through our list or cancelled treatments and will be in contact with all those patients as soon as possible. Routine check up appointments which were cancelled will also be re booked as soon as possible.

Unfortunately due to the increased measures for staff and patient protection there will be an increase in the cost of your treatment. We will do our best to keep this to a minimum and would like to stress the importance of regular check ups as prevention is better than cure.

I qualified from Manchester University in 1981 and have worked in the Maybush area of Southampton since 1990. I am very fortunate to have wonderful help from several part-time staff who have remained with me for many years.

We take great pride in the quality of our dentistry and want to make your visit to us a pleasant experience. We appreciate that you may be apprehensive about a dental visit. Our aim is to achieve good dental health for you and your family through  preventative dentistry in a relaxed environment. By taking the time to provide you with regular dental advice we can help you understand how to take better care of your teeth yourself.

Our range of treatments include: preventative care, tooth coloured fillings, whitening, crowns, bridges, root canal treatments, extractions and denture work. Patients may be referred to specialists for orthodontic work or complex surgical treatment.

Dentistry has made great progress in techniques and filling materials in recent years and with increased awareness of the causes and prevention of tooth decay and gum disease many people now keep their teeth for life.
